Yule Highlights

Posted on December 24, 2010

yule-torches

We started our annual Yule celebration with the traditional feast of lasagna and garlic bread - just like the Druids used to do, I guess.  We then coated, booted, and gloved up for the tramp up the illuminated path to the Yule log, which was "hidden" this year in front of Noyes house.  We sang some lively songs and drank some warm cider before heading back down to the darkened dining room to share our talents.

Highlights this year included a couple of seasoned singers, as well as a couple of first-time song stylists, a playlet about marauding aliens thwarted by Spring Lake Ranchers, a piñata, a guitar-and-harmonica duo, a former staffer returning for her 40th Yule, some nursery rhymes, some slam poetry, an improv troupe, and a home-grown band performing with guitars, violin, drums, trumpet, vocals, and glockenspiel.  We finished up our evening with the Yule log cake, a beautiful sculpture and sweet sugar rush all in one.

Many more lent their voices to this special chorus, welcoming the return of the light at the turn of the winter tide, filling the dining room with winking candles.  It's no wonder so many friends from days gone by come back year after year to celebrate this special night with us, in true Spring Lake Ranch style.
